Next we headed south stopping a couple places along the way. I know we stopped in Fox Glacier and then Lake Wanaka. I can’t remember but there may have been another place on the way. All fairly uneventful. We did try to go skydiving at lake Wanaka but it was too cloudy. We got booked in for the next morning but left to head to Queenstown the next day to meet up with another friend from McGill. Queenstown is kind of a touristy party city. It’s fun for a couple nights. After inquiring about skydiving there instead of driving back up to Wanaka, we were set to go about an hour later. We went and it was totally mindblowing and awesome. It’s way cheaper in NZ, or at least thats what I’ve heard. I spent about $220 to jump from 12,000 feet. Either way, it’s definitely one of the most beautiful places to jump. We had a plane with just us 3 and our tandem masters. I went first, doing a backflip out of the plane and then into some crazy spinny stuff. It’s really surreal. You have 45 seconds of freefall that somehow is very peaceful. You reach terminal velocity really fast so youre just kind of floating with a lot of air rushing at you. I think my favorite part was going through a cloud. It gets closer and closer and then suddenly everything is just white all around you and then you come out the bottom and see the entire earth coming towards you again. My guy was really cool. He let me fly the parachute on the way down and do some spins. That was extremely sickening, but pretty fun, and I thought I should do as much as I can since I’m already jumping out of a plane. I would highly encourage people to do it once in their lives. It’s pretty sweet. The day of skydiving was pretty epic as a whole. It also included eating 2 giant hamburgers and playing 3 consecutive rounds of frisbee golf. If you’re ever in Queenstown, eat lots of Fergburgers (its a REALLY good burger joint) and play lots of disc golf. I think while there we alternated eating only burgers and meat pies for like 3 days. Maybe 4 burgers and 5 or 6 meat pies.
