Next up was Invercargill, one of the southernmost cities in the world. We happened to stumble upon a really sweet backpacker’s (hostel) run by a really awesome guy named Sparky. He was a total character, a total stoner, and a super nice guy. He had quit his job a few months back to run the place full-time. It’s basically just his house. He’s super fun, loves to talk, and loves to hang out and joke around. Invercargill’s main claim to fame (or at least that I learned about ) is an old man who broke the world landspeed record in the 60′s named Burt Monro. The story is documented in a movie called “World’s Fastest Indian”, the Indian in question being the brand of the 1920′s motorcycle that his bike was built from. It’s a pretty amazing story and a decent movie. In the house there were lots of props from the movie, so while watching it, we would spot things and point out that they were around the house. Also Sparky cooked us an amazing cake called jailcake. Ill let the pictures tell the story, but it was super yummy and quite surprising that it worked so well. Also the hardware store in town has a big collection of classic motorcycles, many of which are very old and unique. Definitely worth a stop.
