On Steven and Maggie’s recommendation, we went to stay at Gentle Annie on the west coast. It’s kind of in the middle of nowhere and its just a beautiful campground run by an amazing family. They own a 1000 acre lot that has been a giant greenhouse complex with a cafe, a golfcourse, and now a really cool campground with a few lodges to rent out also. We ended up getting a giant lodge basically to ourselves for real cheap and just spent a couple nights relaxing. If you ever are on the south island, this is definitely not to be missed. There is a deserted beach, a river, a maze made of native plants, a cafe, and beautiful gardens. The owners, Phil and Ellen, really have life figured out pretty well out there.
