2009
I am a bad blogger. I have been busy doing other things, mostly working on websites, and trying to figure out what to study for my midterms next week. But since it’s been a while and my parents are anxious for some more photos, I’ll share the first round of photos from my first trip out of Delhi. About 3 weeks ago, we went to Agra, the home of the Taj Mahal. It really is a stunning piece of architecture and just an amazing human accomplishment.
One thing that was pretty amazing about the time of emperors and completely exorbitant wealth and power, was that people could just build ridiculous monuments. Need 10,000 workers for 10 years? No problem! Need 9000 tonnes of imported marble? Why not, oh great one! Now you go play hide and seek with your harem or ride your favourite elephant, we’ll get to building that giant mausoleum… What a strange life, and strange times.
Agra is definitely worth a visit, and I’m pretty sure most people coming through India do go and visit, but we actually had a much better time in Fatehpur Sikri. It’s a smaller town about 30km from Agra that has a giant beautiful fort. But more on that in my next post once I process and upload those photos.
